‘Gorkha: Beneath the Bravery’ Directed by Pradeep to Release in 90 Countries


Kathmandu: The film Gorkha: Beneath the Bravery, directed by Pradeep Shahi and released last year, is set to premiere on Amazon Prime in 90 countries with a Spanish dub. On the platform, it will be titled 1915: Legend of the Gorkhas. Previously, the English version of the film was released in the USA, UK, Australia, South Korea, Taliban, and Japan.

The movie is based on the true story of Kulbir Thapa, the first Gorkha to receive the Victoria Cross. It depicts the sacrifice, compassion, and friendship of the Gorkhas. The entire film was shot in the UK.

On September 25, 1915, British forces launched a major offensive at Loos, France. During the battle, Rifleman Kulbir Thapa of the 2nd Battalion, 3rd Queen Alexandra’s Own Gorkha Rifles, sustained severe injuries but survived. From September 26, Thapa actively rescued injured soldiers, earning him the honor of becoming the first Gorkha recipient of the Victoria Cross.

Produced under the banner of Shahi Productions, the film stars Sameer Gurung, Gawmaya Gurung, Stuart Walker, Agostino Oberhofer, Oli Bassi, Robin Freiberg, Rajan Gurung, Surya Gurung, Sion Shahi, among others.

Director Pradeep Shahi has previously helmed Gorkha: Beneath the Bravery and Antim Sanskar. The executive producer, Binod Subedi Kshitiz, shared updates on their latest project, Eklo, which has wrapped up filming and is now in post-production.

Eklo features Pradeep Khadka, Benisha Hamal, Vijay Lama, Sunil Thapa, Diya Pun, Dinesh DC, Suraj Singh Thakuri, Avan Raj Upreti, Kavita Nepali, Truchu Rai, Krishna Bhakta Maharjan, Bikash Adhikari, Diggaj Khatri, Binod Subedi Kshitiz, Shrishesh Shrestha, child artist Javin Shrestha, Sion Savik Singh, and British actor Jamie Bacon.
