Kathmandu – The story of Anjila Tumbapo Subba, the captain of the Nepalese national women’s football team, is currently making headlines—not just for her achievements but for a promise made to her. Following the release of Anjila, a movie based on her life, discussions about building a house for Anjila have gained widespread attention.
Film producer Prem Kumar Shrestha has vowed to build a house for Anjila. He has stated that if the movie performs well, he will use the earnings to construct her home. If it doesn’t, he will personally finance it.
“I have given my word, and I will fulfill it no matter what. Even if the movie doesn’t succeed, I will build her house. If needed, I will sell my own assets to keep my promise,” says Shrestha.
However, Anjila has a different vision. Instead of a house, she has proposed the idea of establishing a sports academy. Her goal is to support young girls who aspire to play football so they don’t have to struggle the way she did.
Anjila wants to ensure that future generations of female footballers do not face the hardships she encountered. “Now I have confidence in myself. I believe I can survive on my own. Whether I have a house or not doesn’t matter, but if a football academy is established, young girls won’t have to go through the difficulties I did,” Angela was quoted as saying by Anjila’s director, Milan Chams. “I truly admire her vision—it is an act of greatness.”
Anjila is determined to pass on her skills to the next generation, and discussions with producer Prem kumar Shrestha regarding the academy are ongoing.
Since its release on March 11, Anjila has been performing well in theaters. Last Sunday, distributor Karan Shrestha reported that the movie grossed 27 million NPR over Thursday, Friday, and Saturday.
Anjila is a biopic about Anjila Subba, Nepal’s national women’s football team captain and goalkeeper. The film portrays her journey from childhood struggles to her triumphs in football.
The movie is produced by Prem Kumar Shrestha and directed by Milan Chams, featuring Anjila alongside actors such as Prem Kumar Shrestha, Sunil Thapa, Dayahang Rai, Bijay Baral, Sirjana Subba, Maotse Gurung, Sumin Gurung, and Buddhi Tamang.
