Kathmandu: The English-language film Kama, produced by Nepali actor and producer Bikram D. Joshi, has been nominated at the 11th National Film Awards UK – 2025. Joshi, who has been residing in the United Kingdom for a long time, has earned a nomination for Kama in the “Best West Independent Film” category.
The English-language crime suspense film Kama, which captivated audiences during its screening in various cities across the UK in the second week of March, is competing against British films such as Trading Water, Demise, Before Nikkah, Lyalla, Black Cab, Four Murders, A Brother’s Bond, Don’t Turn Out the Lights, Cookster – The Darkest Days, and Reputation.
Winners of this highly competitive award will be announced on July 2 at a grand ceremony in London’s Porchester Hall. According to the official website of the National Film Academy, UK, which organizes the awards, nominations for the 2025 National Film Awards were publicly announced on May 19, and public voting is open until June 19. Winners in various categories will be selected based on public votes.
Producer Joshi has called upon all Nepalis around the world to vote for Kama and help it win. “Being nominated at the UK’s National Awards is a matter of pride for all of us,” he said. “Therefore, I sincerely request everyone to vote for Kama.”
Established in 2015, the National Film Academy hosts the National Film Awards, one of the UK’s most prestigious annual film ceremonies. The awards honor achievements in categories such as Best British Film, Best Actor, Best Actress, Best Director, Best Script, Best Independent Film, and Best Newcomer, while also presenting a Lifetime Achievement Award to those who have made significant contributions to British cinema.
Kama is directed by Bhimsen Lama and written by the late Bisharad Basnet. The screenplay and dialogues were co-written by Laxman Subedi, Bikram D. Joshi, and Hiral Joshi. The film, which has already won awards at several international festivals, features Nepali actor Tank Dhungel, Sameer Gurung, Indian actress Pooja Gupta, British actors Matthew Wadsford, Jemima Tomes, and Mia Bennett in lead roles.
While Bikram Joshi is the executive producer of the film, Hiral Joshi serves as the main producer. Ishwar Shrestha and MG Amin are co-producers. The entire film was shot in the UK. Joshi, known for producing and acting in films like Happy Days, Password, Hello Zindagi, and Radha, is now preparing for the international release of Kama and working on a new Nepali film titled Bikram.
