Kathmandu – The fourth edition of the Nepal Rural Film Festival (NERUFF) will take place from Baishakh 4 to 6. This year, the festival will be hosted in Gosainkunda Rural Municipality, Rasuwa. The festival, organized regularly by Celebrity Nepal, aims to promote tourism and bring Nepali films to rural markets, as shared by the festival’s chairperson, Raghunath Sapkota.

According to him, the festival will showcase films based on authentic rural Nepali stories. The festival will include documentaries, short films, feature films, and films in various regional languages.

With the theme “Our Village, Our Place, Our Language, Our Films,” the festival will feature domestic short films, documentaries, feature films, and films in different languages that depict rural life. The jury will screen the selected films, and awards will be given to the best films.

This festival, which has been held for the past four years, has consistently focused on films with original rural themes. Along with the film screenings, there will be interactive sessions and workshops discussing what kinds of films can be made based on rural settings, and which films are likely to connect with audiences.

The first year of the festival was held in Laprak, Gorkha, the second year in Bhaktundebesi, Kavre, and the third year in Ramechhap.

The main objectives of the festival are to attract audiences to Nepali films, particularly those based on rural stories, cultivate a habit of watching regular films, showcase rural films to the global stage, and promote local languages, arts, culture, and tourism. Sapkota also mentioned that the Nepal Film Development Board has collaborated with the festival.

Additionally, Gosainkunda Rural Municipality will host the Fourth Municipal Cup Volleyball Competition from Baishakh 2 to 6. The organizers claim that events like these play a significant role in promoting tourism in Rasuwa and help raise the district’s profile both nationally and internationally.
