Kathmandu – A musical short film titled Kotha has been released. The film was made public at a program held on Saturday at the Everest Film Academy in Kathmandu. The short musical film Kotha was produced under the banner of Art Ghar and created by Bhishma Joshi.
The musical film, which was based on Joshi’s story and concept, portrays the psychology of a young person looking for a future while staying in Kathmandu. The film depicts the experiences of a rural young man who arrives in Kathmandu with dreams in his heart. Director Joshi has combined the past left behind in the village and the desires encountered in the city, showcasing them through the film.
The song for Kotha, composed and sung by the popular singer and music composer Prashant Sivakoti, features both modern and folk melodies. Sivakoti has also incorporated the Deuda folk style in the song. At the release event, he mentioned, “Although I am from Jhapa, I have made an attempt to sing the Deuda folk style of far-western Nepal through Kotha. I believe everyone will love our new musical gift.”
During the release of the musical film, Director Joshi explained that Kotha was created by drawing on his personal experiences and feelings after moving from the village to the city. He expressed confidence that the musical film would resonate with many Nepali viewers and listeners.
The lead role in the musical film is played by new actor Praveen Kumar Pandey, with performances by Sabi Thapa, Saroj Khadka, Kalpana Sahi, and Sheetal Pandey. Other actors include Santosh Bist, Srishti Air, Sagar Bhusal, and Anil Dahal.
The cinematography is by Saroj Shrestha, and the editing is done by Riden Shrestha and Dhiraj Adhikari. The film features lyrics written by Director Joshi and poet Dev Brat. Director Joshi had previously released Samay Ra Umer under the Art Ghar banner and is also a well-known and active actor in both Nepali cinema and theater.
