Kathmandu. The 4th edition of the Nepal Rural Film Festival (NERUFF) will be held in the upcoming month of Baisakh. The festival, organized by Celebrity Nepal, aims to promote tourism while bringing Nepali films to rural markets, as informed by the festival’s president, Raghunath Sapkota.
According to him, the festival will feature films based on original rural themes in Nepali cinema. Film registration has been called for the festival, he added. The festival will include documentaries, short films, feature films, and films in various local languages.
The festival, with the theme “Our village, our place, our language, our film,” will showcase indigenous short films, documentaries, feature films, and films in different local languages created with a rural setting. The jury will screen the selected films using modern technology and present awards to the best films.
Held for the past four years, this festival has focused on films with authentic rural themes. Along with film screenings, workshops and interactive sessions will be held to discuss what types of films resonate with rural audiences and how to create films reflecting rural life.
The festival was first held in Laprak, Gorkha, in its inaugural year, and then in Bhakundebesi, Kavre, in the second year, and in Ramechhap in the third year.
The main objectives of the festival are to attract audiences to Nepali indigenous films, develop the habit of regular film watching, bring rural-themed films to a global audience, and promote local language, art, culture, and tourism. According to Sapkota, the festival is being held in collaboration with the Film Development Board.
