Sydney – The Government of New South Wales, Australia, has honored Nepali filmmaker Sabin Gyawali as an Emerging Producer under its prestigious 2025 Emerging Producer Placement Program, organized by Screen NSW.
Alongside Gyawali, Australian filmmakers Alexander Peters and Francisca Braithwaite have also been selected for the program, which annually recognizes promising talents contributing to the local film industry.
As part of the recognition, Gyawali has received a grant of AUD 35,000. The program aims to support emerging creatives based in the cultural hub of Sydney, encouraging their professional growth through financial and institutional support.
“This recognition has energized me and added a greater sense of responsibility,” said Gyawali, reflecting on the honor. “I’m now more committed than ever to my journey in filmmaking.”
Residing in Sydney for over 15 years, Gyawali is best known as the producer of the Nepali film ‘Dokh’. He has also worked as the line producer for several Nepali films shot in Australia, including ‘Ritu’, ‘The Breakup’, ‘Winner’, and ‘Lappan Chhappan 2’.
Beyond Nepali cinema, Gyawali has contributed to a variety of international productions, including Chinese, English, and Indian films. He has also been involved in Australian projects like ‘A Line Returns’ and ‘Rise’.
With this accolade, Gyawali will now have the opportunity to collaborate closely with Screen NSW, gaining hands-on experience in film production, distribution, direction, and exhibition.
