Scotland to Host ‘Nepal Indigenous Film Festival’

Kathmandu – The ‘Nepal Indigenous Film Festival 2025’ will be held in Edinburgh, the capital of Scotland. The event is being organized by the Nepal Scotland Association (NSA), along with the Nepal Film Industry Federation, Province 1, and the Film Culture Society of Nepal.

The Nepal Film Directors Association will assist in organizing the event from Nepal. The facilitation of the program will be handled by the Indigenous Film Federation, Province 1. The association announced the event on Tuesday, stating that the festival will take place in August.

The festival aims to promote the international market for indigenous films, as explained by Jyotiraj Rai, the President of the Indigenous Film Federation, Province 1. Rai believes that the festival will help expand the international market for indigenous films and accelerate production. He also shared that the federation aims to hold similar festivals in other countries after Scotland.

The event will feature the participation of several key figures, including Vijay Dangol, President of the Nepal Scotland Association; Tika Limbu, President of the Himalayan Center; artist Subash Thapa; producer Sagar Subedi; Arun Kumar Pradhan, General Secretary of the Nepal Film Directors Association, and President of the Nepal Film Industry Federation in Province 1.

The festival will not only showcase indigenous food, attire, and culture but also screen indigenous films. Awards will be given to the artists and films featured in the screenings. The festival will include various interactions and honor ceremonies, with a large number of participants expected, according to the festival director, Arun Kumar Pradhan.

The renowned ‘Edinburgh Festival’ will also be taking place in August in Scotland, and this festival will coincide with that event. According to Vijay Dangol, this will be the first Indigenous Film Festival to be held in Scotland.
