Kathmandu — With the aim of empowering women’s voices, equality, and justice, the South Asian Feminist Film Festival – Film Marathon 2026 is set to take place in Kathmandu. Organized by the Blue Butterfly Foundation, the event will be held on Magh 13 (January 27, 2026) from 10:00 AM to 11:30 AM at One Cinemas, New Baneshwor.
The program is an important part of the global One Billion Rising (OBR) 2026 campaign, which uses cinema as a powerful medium for dialogue, resistance, and social transformation. The festival will showcase stories reflecting the lived experiences, struggles, courage, justice, and pursuit of equality of South Asian women.
Two impactful films will be screened during the event. The Nepali film “Unspoken Bond” sensitively portrays women’s psychological resilience within silence, emotional relationships, and complex social realities. Similarly, the internationally acclaimed Pakistani documentary “Saving Face” highlights the struggle against acid attacks, focusing on courage, justice, survival, and rebuilding life.
Through powerful films from Bangladesh, Nepal, Pakistan, India, and Sri Lanka, the South Asian Feminist Film Festival aims to amplify feminist voices and narratives while raising awareness against inequality across the region.
The event is being organized under the leadership of Srijan Shrestha, President of the Blue Butterfly Foundation, and Jenish Pahari, Managing Director of Butterfly Films Pvt. Ltd., with support from Sangati Nepal, One Billion Rising Nepal 2026, and Butterfly Films.
