Kathmandu – The fourth edition of the ‘Nepal Rural Film Festival’ (NERUFF) is set to be held in Gosaikunda Rural Municipality of Rasuwa district. Celebrity Nepal, the organizer, announced at a press conference in Dhunche, the district headquarters of Rasuwa, on Thursday that the festival will take place from April 16 to 18 (Baisakh 4 to 6).
The festival, held each year in a different rural district, features screenings of Nepali feature films, short films, documentaries, and cultural films that reflect rural settings. Festival Chairperson Raghunath Sapkota stated that the event will also host various discussion programs centered on Nepali cinema, tourism, and rural storytelling. He added that alongside film screenings, the festival aims to promote local tourism and the preservation of indigenous arts and culture. The festival coordinator is director Kamal Ekchai Magar.
Around two dozen films will be showcased during the festival, and local villagers will have the opportunity to engage in interactive sessions with the filmmakers and film crew. Since there is no cinema hall in Rasuwa, the organizers believe the festival will offer a complete entertainment experience for local audiences who are passionate about films, while also contributing to the promotion of the Nepali film industry. The festival aims to draw approximately 4,000 attendees.
The Film Development Board is also supporting the festival. In addition, the fourth edition of the annual Palika Cup Volleyball Tournament, organized by Gosaikunda Rural Municipality, will be held from April 14 to 18 (Baisakh 2 to 6). The organizers claim that such events hold special significance for promoting tourism in Rasuwa and helping the district gain recognition both nationally and internationally.
