Kathmandu – Renowned for his multifaceted contributions to Nepali music, cinema, and the medical field, Dr. Bhola Rijal has been honored with the prestigious ‘Lal–Samundra National Multi-Talent Award’.
The award was presented during a special ceremony organized by the Nepal Music Association on the occasion of World Music Day. As part of the honor, Dr. Rijal received a certificate of recognition along with a cash prize of NPR 25,000.
Dr. Rijal is not only a lyricist, artist, and film producer but also a distinguished gynecologist. He was honored in recognition of his lifelong contributions to both the Nepali arts and the health sector.
The event also honored several other prominent personalities from various fields. Among them were Shiva Shankar Manandhar, Ratna Shamsher Thapa, Prem Dhoj Pradhan, Pushpa Nepali, Phatteman Rajbhandari, Subha Bahadur Sunam, Rajesh–Laxmi (dance gurus), who were awarded national musical honors under the name of the Nepal Music Association.
The ‘Lal–Samundra National Multi-Talent Award’ was established by U.S.-based writer-director Vikas Ghale Gurung in memory of his late parents, Lal Gurung and Samundra Gurung. Gurung, an international Taekwondo athlete, coach, and dance theory scholar, stated that the award was created with the aim of inspiring the younger generation.
Past recipients of this award include Om Pratik Gurung, Bhimarjun Acharya, Komal Oli, Nir Shah, the comedy duo ‘Maha Jodi’ (Haribansha Acharya and Madan Krishna Shrestha), and Vijay Lama.
The award is presented annually on June 21, coinciding with World Music Day.
