Kathmandu: A formal discussion was held at the office of the Film Development Board between its Chairman, Dinesh DC, and Gregory D. Simkiss, Chief of Visa at the U.S. Embassy in Nepal.
The meeting was attended by the U.S. Embassy’s consular team, where topics such as the current state of Nepali cinema, film award and recognition events in Nepal and the U.S., and visa-related matters for film professionals were discussed.
Visa Chief Gregory D. Simkiss expressed interest in the selection process, credibility of film awards in Nepal, and the authenticity of recommendation letters received by artists.
Chairman DC emphasized the importance of facilitating participation for Nepali filmmakers in film festivals, workshops, and other cultural events in the U.S. to strengthen cultural ties between Nepal and the U.S. He also highlighted the need for large-scale special events featuring American and Nepali films in Nepal.
Visa Chief Gregory D. Simkiss assured that the U.S. Embassy is positive and supportive of streamlining the visa process for Nepali film professionals.
The Film Development Board has been making various efforts to promote Nepali cinema on an international level. As part of this initiative, Chairman DC stressed the need for further facilitation in the visa process to strengthen ties with the U.S.
This meeting is expected to play a significant role in easing international travel for Nepali filmmakers.
