Ramechhap to host Nepal Rural Film Festival from April 18


The third Nepal Rural Film Festival is set to take place in Ramechhap district.

Organising a press conference at Manthali, the headquarters of Ramechhap, on Wednesday, the organiser, Celebrity Nepal, announced that the 3rd edition of the festival will be held at Ramechhap Bazaar situated in Ramechhap Municipality-8 from April 18 to 20.

Raghunath Sapkota, president of Celebrity Nepal, said that over 24 films would be screened for free in the three-day event.

Sapkota said that a diverse array of films would be featured, including feature films set in rural environments, short films, documentaries and films in various languages.

He mentioned that the registration process for films was underway and emphasised that only films selected by the jury would be screened during the festival.

Additionally, Sapkota stated that actors from the featured films would attend the festival and engage in audience interviews, particularly targeting rural attendees.

He also highlighted plans for discussions on leveraging cinema tourism to boost local-level tourism and attract more film crews to shoot in Ramechhap.

Film director Kamal Ecchai Magar shared the festival’s overarching goals, emphasising its role in promoting tourism and expanding the reach of Nepali films in rural markets.

Magar highlighted the festival’s aim to cultivate a regular film-watching habit among audiences, showcase rural-themed films globally and bolster the local language, art, culture and tourism sectors.

The first edition of the festival was held in Laprak, Gorkha and the second edition in Bhakundebensi, Kavre.
