Kathmandu: The Nepali Film Awards are set to be organized in Australia. The event will be held from May 28 to June 1, and it is being organized by an institution named “D-Wise Entertainment.” The Global Nepali Film Awards will be held during this period. Ganesh Mall, the head of D-Wise Entertainment, mentioned that the awards are being organized with the aim of promoting Nepali films and tourism.
In recent times, the market for Nepali films has been growing well in Australia. Nepali films are regularly screened there, and several big films have earned millions in business solely in Australia. This has greatly promoted the Nepali film market. Additionally, tourism and the audience for Nepali films have also been growing through these films.
The awards will cover various genres of Nepali films. According to Ganesh Mall, over three dozen artists and filmmakers will participate in the event. The awards will only involve film nominees, renowned technicians, film journalists, organizers, and other industry professionals. D-Wise Entertainment has been organizing various events in Australia in the past.
The award ceremony will have four phases: announcement, nomination, award presentation, and thank-you speeches. A total of 18 categories will be included in the awards. Senior filmmakers will form a jury, and awards will be presented based on their decisions. Categories will include Film, Director, Story, Music, Actor, Actress, Supporting Actor, Singer, Cinematographer, Editor, Background Score, and more. There will also be special awards such as “Popular Hero of the Year” and “Popular Heroine of the Year.” A film journalist will receive the “Film Journalism Award,” and a distinguished filmmaker will be presented with a Lifetime Achievement Award, along with a cash prize.
The organizers have announced that they will provide further information about the categories, participating artists, the jury, and other details through a press conference soon. They have assured that the award ceremony will be organized in a well-managed and prestigious manner, leaving no room for error.
Registration for films that were released in 2023 has already started. Ganesh Mall, from the organizing institution, also mentioned that Australian filmmakers, distributors, and citizens will be present at the awards ceremony. The ceremony will include a discussion and interaction program with foreign filmmakers and Nepali filmmakers regarding the status of the Nepali film market, the audience, and promotion in Australia. The organizers also indicated that they will collaborate with film-related associations, government agencies, and sponsors for the event.
